About

FringeEdTech is all about misusing technology for learning - in a good way.

SMARTBoards, tablets, classroom response systems and a myriad of other technologies have secured roles in classrooms around the world. They widen the learning experience by adding color, animation, participation, customization, access, and efficiency.

But they often require training, practice, and time. In the end, the payoff is dramatic. Totally worth it.

"I need you to be clever, Bean. I need you to think of solutions to problems we haven't seen yet. I want you to try things that no one has ever tried because they're absolutely stupid."

He thought of a half dozen ideas before he went to sleep. Ender would be pleased -- every one of them was stupid.

There is an awful lot of "smaller" technology that can be leveraged today. Ideas that require little to no training. Ideas that have zero cost and little risk. Ideas that might not be intended for the classroom at all. Ideas that might be off the radar of educators.

That's what FringeEdTech is about. Recognizing how non-traditional educational technology can enhance the learning experience. Think of it as ideas that are on the periphery of educational technology.

If you have questions or comments about these technologies, feel free to comment on each related post. Or, email FringeEdTech.
